What People Say About Us

From NJH Annual Feedback — October 2019

Hear what our children, young people and those important to them say about NJH.

Social Worker

(child 1) transition was so well managed by them. She has the baby now but is still welcomed back there. (child 1) was quite stressful but they still supported her…she’s doing so well now. The care at NJH has been great. She spent her formative years there. She is doing so well …it was the right place and she needed that. She still talks to me about NJH”

Social Worker

“They have supported (child 1) on trips away and give her support and encouragement to take part in new opportunities”

Parent/Carer

“Honestly, they bring your feelings into it. It’s not easy having (child 1) in care. They make it easier for me”

Social Worker

“To be perfectly honest, life was particularly miserable before the placement….not attending school, socially isolated, health compromised….it’s unbelievable how he has come on. Since he moved, he has become more active and is doing things socially. They’re encouraging skills like computing and art”

Parent/Carer

“I generally get that feeling and experience of them… they comfort her so much”

Young Person

“I think Elaine’s good. What I like about her is she still gets previous residents involved…it was M’s birthday not that long ago and we had a cake for her… she’s got C involved as well. So I still see them and that’s great.”

Young Person

“You get listened to, and they come up with things too so that makes it feel as if you are a part of it. I made (child 1) a welcome box. I got one too when I came.”

Social Worker

“NJH has developed good relationships with the local school. I was impressed with that. (child 1) has been going to school every day. If you’d said that was going to happen before the placement at NJH people would have thought you were joking.”

Young Person

“I went on holiday with my family… S [keyworker] came and we had a great time. I had a tutor coming in on Wednesdays and I got my Nat 4s. I was so happy. I never expected that but they keep encouraging you. It felt great. I’m getting older and the future is a bit uncertain. I’d like to go back to (home town) and work in elderly care… I know they’ll help me with that.”

Parent/Carer

“There is genuine care and tremendous positivity”

Young Person

“There’s been lots of things that I’ve liked… it’s hard to think of one… I’ve had a lot of help with activities… maybe going to see my gran. I’m doing lots of things now and they are keeping me on track with my plan (health and exercise)”

Parent/Carer

“It’s been a really, really positive experience. I only wish he had went there sooner. I get regular contact. I’ve been there a few times and they’ve been up here. I’ve met everybody and I’ve got a really good relationship with them”.

Young Person

“They spend time with you”

Young Person

“I could speak to him about stuff I couldn’t speak to anyone else about… I trusted him”.

Young Person

“A good staff is somebody who leaves their own problems at the door and is the same every day”.
