I have just completed my first 8 weeks at NJH and what a whirlwind it has been already! As someone who is totally new to residential childcare, I am just at the start of my journey and have so much to learn.
Some suns never set
Thank you. Two little words that hold such great strength. Thank you to everyone at NJH. The young people, their families, the NJH team, the Directors; Julia and Stewart Cowan, Dr Irene Stevens, Maureen Anderson, and everyone who I have come across during my NJH Journey. A huge thank you to the Residential child care community and all the organisations that have supported us and me over the past 3 years. I am profoundly grateful to be part of such an inspirational community
What’s Love Got to Do With it? – Love in Residential child care
What’s Love Got to Do With it? – Love in Residential child care by Niamh Miller
My own experiences of working in residential child care have led me to develop a keen interest in the dynamics of a worker’s relationship with a young person. By utilising a relationship-based approach to inform our practice, we enable meaningful attachments to be made on a daily basis. Love is an extremely complex emotion that has been studied over the years by multiple psychologists.
